I have a set top box from CISCO, Explorer 8642 HD. Last night, Feb 1st, it started displaying HEX numbers in decrementing mode and never comes out of the loop. I unplugged the box and waited for 10 minutes. When it is powered, it displays ER 54 and starts displying the same looping HEX numbers. It is stuck there and it seems it will never come out of this loop. I cannot make use of set top box. Any ideas how to flash or reboot the bloody box? Has anyone seen the same thing?

Re: Pvr won't boot up Er54 message
Its quite possibly getting the new guide download.. and failing.
USUALLY something like this, often can happen when its not quite great signal to the box at that specific location.
Do you have another cable outlet in the house you can move it to and see if it completes there?
(in the long run, probably worth getting rogers out to check the signal at that location)
Re: How does Rogers on Demand Work?
My other box is HD and it was an HD version of the movie I downloaded. Also, that box is not updating the guide. It still has the old blue one.
Re: Closed caption with new Nextbox navigator
A button and menus and harder to find
Re: On Demand problems
Mine's been down since October, all that's happened is the auto generated emails have stopped...
Re: Pvr won't boot up Er54 message
Thanks for your suggestions. I will definitely try everything possible.
Re: UPDATED NextBox Navigatr - December 2015/January 2016
Regarding the blank "Settings" screen I'm getting, I understand that you are suggesting that I press "Menu" instead of "Settings". It's not that I don't see "Settings" as an option to select, I do. It's when I select "Settings" the screen that I get shows "ROGERS Navigatr. Settings" in the top left hand corner and the rest of the screen is blank. There are no settings displayed for me to change.
So I still don't have a solution. I have rebooted a few times with no luck.
(And pressing the Settings button brings up the same screen as Menu->settings and is similarly blank.)
Re: UPDATED NextBox Navigatr - December 2015/January 2016
I have the same problem with 2 rows of tiles not fitting on the screen. Who designs this stuff such that it doesn't all fit on the screen?!?
I should add that I have 2 Nextboxes: a 2.0 and a 3.0 and they both have this same dysfunction.
I noted that someone was asking what type of TV you had. Mine is an HDTV.

Updates rolled out in Ottawa today. Only one of my three boxes were hit. How can I prevent the ones that were not hit from being hit?

Re: New Nextbox Navigator
Hi
The current remotes have a green "D" button, which apparently is for a weather app or something on the Nextboxes. It does nothing on my 8300. How many people actually use this? It might be a good one to reassign for CC.
The green weather buttonis used and is useful.
Perhaps the FAV button could be sacrificed for a one click CC if needed.
E.g. the GUIDE button toggles to FAV when clicked a second time.
Some don't use fav, and many of us who do also scan the guide as well.
Re: New Nextbox Navigator
I'm in Ottawa and just got the new Navigator pushed to my box. What a monstrosity. What moron at Rogers thought this was better? Nothing is intuitive and nothing is easier. You used to be able to use the LIST button to switch between the recorded programs and the scheduled recordings. Now you have to enter the settings, change the filter option and hit save. Multiple button presses replacing one. That's easier? And how do all the cutesy pictures help in the recorded list? It's more cluttered and harder to move through. The old text list worked much better. And who thought the all gray theme for the guide was a good choice? Talk about ugly. And again everything takes up more space making it harder to use with less information shown. Maybe Rogers (or Cisco) should hire some programmers that are older than 22 and haven't spent their entire lives on social media web sites. It's clear none of them have ever used a PVR.
PLEASE Rogers give us the option to go back to the old guide.

Excellent summary. Worth repeating.
Moral : If it ain't broke....
NextBox Explorer 8600 Bleeps
Rogers has given me the NextBox Explorer 8600 as FREE RENTAL (my Condo has contract to Rogers for Cable Service).
But the Box Bleep, the Hard Drive keeps searching.
I have returned one, but the second box bleeps the same.
It bleeps even when Power OFF, it is annoying noise.
I do not mind to return it, but if Rogers keep giving me the same model, the problem remian.
Can anybody help !
Re: Closed caption with new Nextbox navigator
TO
Try SETTINGS on Remote
Scroll down to Closed Caption
Enter
Scroll left and click on CC1 so there is an arrow
EXIT
EXIT
EXIT
You should have CC.
IF not - try same steps above but from live TV channel like Global or whatever.
Confirm CC works and then go to SHOMI on another.
Re: NB3 #2 - Code Cd00 Permanently Displayed As Of Yesterday's Update - Even On New Box
I have the exact same problem with the Code 00. I was told that it is my line and had to have a tech sent out. I don't want a tech in my home. Now I must wait for his convenience to show up. For a problem on their end? Wonderful. Thanks for the heads up. Good luck out there.

The short answer to that question: No. The long answer: No, and Rogers doesn't give a **** what you want as evidenced by the six months of complaining by those it was rolled out to before the latest part of the population became infected.
See this thread if you don't believe me. 170 pages so far, and then this new thread was started. http://communityforums.rogers.com/t5/forums/forumtopicpage/board-id/PVR_settop_boxes_remotes/thread-id/27960

...to see the upcoming recordings I have to click "c" to sort, change a setting, save the setting, then go back to the previous screen. And then rinse and repeat to go back to my list of already recorded shows.
After pressing "List", you can see your list of recordings. If you page down to the bottom of the list, you will see your scheduled recordings (recordings that are scheduled for the next 6 days, as well as scheduled recordings that do not air in the next 6 days that may be "left over" from some time ago). This is usually faster than using the "filter - C" to switch. Plus if you use the filter to see scheduled recordings, you won't see your scheduled recordings that do not air in the next 6 days (0-Recordings, 0-Scheduled Recordings)...
as it turns out, that's not as good of a solution that I had initially thought. I was just checking my list tonight - went to the bottom of the list of recordings and saw only 2 scheduled recordings for tomorrow night. I was pretty sure I had more than that scheduled, so I did the filter thing to get to the list of ONLY scheduled recordings, and sure enough, there were 5 listed for tomorrow night, whereas the bottom of the recordings list only showed 2.
so unless I'm missing something, the only way to see an accurate list of scheduled recordings is to use the filter - the only other way to see what's scheduled would be to click on each tile to check - either way, it's a lot more clicks than the 2 it took a few days ago

wrote:OK, after one day with the new less than easy to use Navigatr my thumb is worn out from all the extra remote clicks needed to access features and tring to figure out how to use them. i too have encountered many of the complaints listed in the multitude of threads and posts but will (at this time) just mention the ones that are close to being a deal breaker with Rogers.
1. The font on the guide and more so in some of the features is still almost unreadable for anyone with with less that 20/20 vision. This is may not be a big issue for some but it is important to older viewers or those with visual disabilities.
2. With the NB2 not being able to easily determine if there are scheduled recording conflicts is time consuming and extremely frustrating. Oh don't forget not being able to see the channel, and time of scheduled recordings without haviing to click,click,click.....
There are several other issue that I absolutely detest but "for now" will try to live with, However, I'm n ot sure how long that will be. My husband is already advocating for moving everything to Bell, but I am hoping for Rogers to make improvements over the coming weeks.
One quick question. The mini-guide. When I change channels it flickers into view for about one-tenth of a second. is there any way to get it to stay long enough to read it?
Re miniguide, just select the channel again and read fast. Repeat till done!
