Re: Is there any simple way to see my future recordings at a glance
In their infinite wisdom the brainiacs at Rogers decided that it was too simple for us to see a single list of everything that we had recorded + a single list of everything that we had scheduled to record so both these lists no longer exist. Now, instead of hitting LIST 1x to see all the recorded programs & hitting LIST 2x to see all the scheduled recordings, you can now find this same info by 10 - 15 steps, which obviously is better than 1 or 2 steps.
The only way to see what has been recorded or scheduled to record is to hit LIST 1x, then go to each box, open that box, & look at both these tabs within that box. Then you go back to the LIST home screen & repeat these steps for each box that shows. Yes, this is way simpler than hitting LIST 1x & seeing everything at a single glance.
I'm still waiting to see what the improvements are that this Navigatr system was supposed give us. So far everything that I have seen is the polar opposite.
Re: New Nextbox Navigator
Bruce:Thanks to you for starting this thread and for your extensive ongoing contribuutions.
Rogers:
You created a very big problem, and its not going away.
Parts of this very long thread have had nearly 2500 views as of today, Aug 18.
The fix is easy, please do it now !
Agreed, the fix should be easy. However, Rogers stated categorically today on Facebook that there is no reverting to an older format from the Navigatr guide. It appears that they are . bent on this and nothing will sway them - not even a 45-page thread here with 2500 views or numerous complaints elsewhere on various other Internet forums or through the social media. It also probably explains why Rogers is so silent on the issue. It is all so very discouraging that Rogers refuses to listen. Personally, I cannot think of a better opportunity for Rogers to create a huge amount of goodwill by admitting that they were wrong, cancelling Navigatr, and rolling back the customers that have so far received this atrocity! Unfortunatley, it does not seem like it will happen!

Re: NAVIGATR UPDATE **WIPED MY DRIVE**
Hey is it just me? my 8642HD has been STUCK on a 4:3 screen at 720p for 3 weeks now.
Re: New Nextbox Navigator
The font size if ridiculous. I believe this guide change is due to wanting to share on the smartphone market. Rogers has really given their customers no choice in this. We have 2 nexbox on whole home. The changes are numerous. My husband has real difficulty reading the screen. Did anyone at rogers give this any thought at all. You cannot revert back to the old guide. Personally I hate this new guide and half the time things do not work properly. I can't count the times I have set my guide to subscribed stations to have it jump right back to ALL. We use to be able to delete recorded progams on the pvr recording from the other pvr where we watched the show. No more now we have to run downstairs to delete the show. Use to be our recording and scheduled shows were shown on separate lists. Not anymore. You use to be able to see which of our pvr's held the recording NO More gone. Shows could be organized in several ways. The date they were recorded, alphabet order, the netbox they were on. Everyone that I talk to hates the new guide. We are not alone in this and yet the option to use the old guide wasn't even put forth. Just another way to trash loyal customers.
Re: New Nextbox Navigator
Oh please we don't need instructions. I am fully aware of how to operate the new guide. But it is cumbersome and has lost features. If you are going to do one thing ENLARGE the font. Everyone I talk to hates it and they are pretty smart people who are capable and don't need any directions to operate this user unfriendly program. Why do you have to have a large box for instance instead of a list as in the old guide. I am not going to bother to list the many inane changes that Rogers has made. You broke something that simply put in language you can understand did not need fixing.

Right-on. Please keep up the good work.
Re: NAVIGATR UPDATE **WIPED MY DRIVE**
Are you saying yours is displaying at 4:3 even on HD channels, all the time?!
And a reboot hasn't fixed it?

theClubHopper wrote:As for Closed Captioning - I tried for 5 minutes the other day to change the CC text colour, background transparency, background colour, font size, etc. but could not get any of the Settings menu CC customizations to take. Besides the default values, has anyone found a combination of CC settings that results in it displaying what you've set?
Answering my own question, I finally figured it out: CC customizations will only display if Settings->Closed Captions->Style is set to 'Set by Viewer'. (the default is 'Set by Program').
And the reason I missed this? Even though its the 1 critical setting that must be changed in order for any of the customizations to take, in the Settings->Closed Captions submenu, 'Style' is the LAST option (12th of 12, with only the first 9 options visible without scrolling). tip: scroll UP once.
Don't forget, to get CC visible during playback of Recordings, you must first toggle CC on during live TV (via [INFO][DOWN][DOWN][OK][UP][UP][OK]), and same again to turn it off afterwards.
digital box display
I'm probably not the first to mention this, but trying to read the time on the digital box with the blue LED is nearly impossible for most people. I have heard TONS of people complain about it. This should be changed as its a pretty big customer dissatisifier.
Re: New Nextbox Navigator
Thanks for providing the step by step process of dealing with the CC setting issues. Now that was certainly confusing, and definititely not intuitive - how about a more or error at the bottom to let us know there is more there to deal with.
And as for the early statement that Rogers is stubbornly going forward with this change - still no explanation or clarification of why and how this makes it better, easier etc. How about a clear explanation of where it makes things easier and just where are they taking this, as I get the gut feeling this is the foundation of some future changes. I could be wrong, but in absence of information and clarity being given to us as we ask, we will draw our own conclusions, right or wrong, that is all we can do. Not good communication or a way to get "buy in" to changes. Marketing 101.
I think we should keep this thread running as a place for new people to join in and gripe (as that is all that is left for us to do), we have suggested, asked for clarification, and all we can do now is say all the things we don't like and to reiterate problems, or bring new ones they have found.
Once the next upgrade begins to come out -- we still don't know when that will be - I think a new thread should begin - Navigatr Season II maybe where we can hopefully compliment them on all the wonderful fixes and making it truly easier and better and a great experience, and we can also communicate and clarify what is still to be dealt with or new ones that are found.
And Season I episode ... continues. It has been a long one. We could cal this episode 2 as they have dealt with the poor souls who the update wiped their shows. Now they sit with us and wait.

Re: New Nextbox Navigator
Just a heads up for the forum moderators too be aware of and hopefully it can be pushed to marketing, advertising, and to senior staff.
The message is spreading:
Includes a pdf summary and a position that they are leaving at the end. This person did a very detailed description of some of the major issues.
A reprint of the Roseman article.
Much on Facebook and Twitter pages, along with I am sure many statements by customers to their friends, neighbours, relatives, CSR's and upwards through the system, and in general conversation over dinner, in restaurants, in Bell and other options while looking for options.
And it doesn't help that if you search Rogers Nextbox, you will see issues from back to the original rollout of 2, then 2-3. The Internet never forgets, so a strong current message has to get out to override all the negative stuff.
There is a serious need for the company to view this challenge as an opportunity and as has been said before, they have a chance to take their time, get this right and to demonstrate that they can acknowledge their mistakes honestly, be humble and listen and respond. But in the meantime, the message around this whole incident and other big ones over the last couple of months continue to keep spreading. Yes, as was stated, it was great to get a clarification on this forum, but what about the 99% of other users who didn't see it and are beginning to wonder just what is coming their way.

Re: Documentation for Nextbox 3.0 9865HD
Hi and thanks googols for this opportunity to connect and solve issues!!!
THE LINKS TO THE MANUAL ARE ALL DEAD please someone fix them?
I have the Nextbox 9865 by Cisco I think, pretty recent! There are 2 USB jacks on the back. I put in a flash disk/memore and a screen asking if I want to format it came up, then said the device didn't respond properly. I tried both jacks, various disks/cards.
What kind of USB device can it take?
Again thanks bazillioins for these foums - as well as Rogers' greatestest products and services! Keep it up!

Re: Documentation for Nextbox 3.0 9865HD
Simple question: can I save shows to USB Flash drive? THANKS FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY TO ASK!
The ONLY reason we upgraded to this unit is so that I can get shows off of it with the USB port so thanks googols!

None. The USB ports are not used in Rogers RTN implementarion.
The eSATA port can be used to add an external disk, though there appears to be a limited selection of drives that are supported/work. If the manufacturers tehnical specifications specifically state it works with a PVR/DVR then it should be OK.

There is no way to get programs off the box other than playing them in real time through the HDMI/RGB/Video outputs and recording on another device (like a DVR, or even VHS/Betamax).
