Well, Lurkie, thanks for bringing me down to your harsh reality of they-don't-want-you-to-have-what-you-want. Some stop there, others push the envelope, make requests that many many many people want and whala!

AN ARCHIVING DEVICE

If Rogers won't supply it, we find out who does, that Rogers doesn't mind us buying products from. The whole idea is Rogers is paid by us to help us be entertained and informed. Don't be so negative!

Of course there are many ways one can back-up the data coming into the house. Take a movie of the TV! My point is, since we have these supercomputers - PVRs have impressive processors and are designed for us to be ecstatic with their capabilities - so we find the software guru who can activate a "save to flash drive" or "save to external drive" option from "Recorded programs" in the 1056B01 handset to Nextbox 3.

It's simply a matter of letting Rogers know what we want, and with patience, everything comes exactly when it should. Thanks for hearing me out, and everyone will love Rogers even more when they share this option!

Teo

Not trying to be NEGATIVE.. i would LOVE to see this option.

But personally do not beleive it would happen well not in the sense that most would prefer.
(goes back to the whole argument  when the VHS players came out).

A way to BACK UP the recordings on it, at least to HAVE them, to be able to reload onto a FRESH PVR, Yes could happen.

But in any other way.. it too much of a chance for piracy, and distribution, etc..
Which rogers wouldnt want to be responsible for handing out a device which would easily allow that..  they probably would get in big trouble with their licensors.

Simple question: can I save shows to USB Flash drive? THANKS FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY TO ASK!

If the manufacturers tehnical specifications specifically state it works with a PVR/DVR then it should be OK

Hi Neil,

Yay of yays! At least we have a glimpse of light waaay down this dark tunnel! I don't know what an eSATA is..

"The eSATA port can be used to add an external disk"

But we suuuure are getting SOMEWHERE! Yay! Woohoo! Neil you are my buddy! As they say, "Ask and ye shall receive." I believe in patience. With unlimited patience everything comes just when you want it. Ah some relief!

Now I may be able to save these 20 Wagner opera recordings I need to have available every minute Robot wink

Not to fast there.

The eSATA (its a external version of what most PCs use internally now), drives, are not for BACKUP.

Plugging in an eSATA drive, expands the storage capabilities.  It will format the drive, and then add that to the total storage available for the PVR.

Exactly.  Maybe I should have been clearer with that.

And Teo4 - before you ask - no you can't decide what programs are recorded on the external drive, that is managed by the PVR itself and programs COULD in theory be spread over both the internal and external drive.   Either way it appears the index for what is recorded on the external drive is kept on the internal drive.

And if you disconnect it and connect it to another PVR your only menu choice is whether to initialize the drive for use with the new PVR or not.  You can not access the programs that may be recorded on it unless you reconnect it to the exact same box you had it attached to when they were recorded (and then maybe only if you immediately reattach it, before the original PVR records anything else and wipes the index data for what was recorded on the external drive.

The product has been intentionally designed to NOT let you make any digital copies of recordings from it.

Saying that it is 'user unfriendly' is a gross understatement.

Like you say, there used to be a simple list where one could see all the recorded programs - GONE. There also used to be a similar list where one could see a simple list of all the scheduled programs, in the order that they were to be recorded - GONE. Now if I want to see what has been recorded or scheduled to record, I have to open each box individually to see this info. No single place to see it all. Also, when a program is being recorded, there is no simple way to see what the program is that is being recorded. Another GONE.

And then, when I want to stop/delete a recording that I'm watching, instead of 2 or 3 steps, it is now 6 - 8 steps because if the program isn't at the top of the recorded list in that series as soon as I hit STOP it automatically goes back to the top of the list, forcing me to scroll back down to the episode that I want to delete, re-open it & then procede with my DELETE process.

I have yet to see anything that was an improvement.

Update:  Rogers is now sending a technician to the house next Monday to do something to our 8642 which is "the only thing left and will defintely fix the problem" (blank settings screen, etc). The only thing that I can imagine they could do is to reflash the box firmware - if so  I'm optimistic that will work.

So, tonight I was going to record Extant from Global at 10pm. I had it set as a series recording, but tonight it is nowhere to be found. So, I checked the guide and the program is on at 9pm tonight. Ok, Set it to record with the red button.

No can do. Message says the program is already set to be recorded. Hmm. Not that I can see it anywhere. So I set it to record from ABC at 9pm. We'll see what actually gets recorded.

The design flaws in this UI are just endless.

Well, thank god for timeshift, because it's on Global BC (568) at midnight. Or will Negator block that too?

Stumbled on another problem tonight:
In my settings I have my default series recording settings as New Episodes, Any Timeslot, Any Day.
Go to the guide, select something, press record series: the settings are New Episodes, Any Timeslot, This Day Only.
Yet another setting that isn't respected. Come on Rogers, we're not even trying to find problems...

I had a similar problem at first but then I found a way to make the setting "stick". Go into settings and change your selection to This Day Only and then exit settings. Now go back into settings and switch it back to Any Day, then exit again. For some reason, this "switch" maintains the new setting and I haven't had a problem since.....and it's been a few weeks. Good luck!

Please , please roll out the new updates to Toronto!!!

No one will listen to us in outer slobovia.  Perhaps when hundreds of thousands of city dwellers start complaining some of the deaf ears at Rogers will perk up.  Where on earth do these executives live that they are so oblivious to the problems?

For now, we are on our own.

Yes, those are the channel numbers I have for DIY. It's just strange to me that it's not in HD when everything else seems to be.

Jack,

From the lack of comment/action I must surmise Rogers executives all live down in the Diefenbunker in Carp ON.

I'm happy to hear the issue is resolved and your TV viewing experience has returned to normal. If it pops up again come back and let us know, we'll be here to help.

As for the remote, I think there are some pretty good instructions in the forums on how to program the Rogers remote, check out this link it should help: http://communityforums.rogers.com/t5/forums/forumtopicpage/board-id/PVR_settop_boxes_remotes/message-id/22293#M22293.

If the problem persists, lets us know.

I'm also having problems accessing Shomi or TMN On-demand since Navigatr was installed on both my boxes. I'm able to access the channels and select a movie but it doesn't download. I get the same error message on both Shomi and TMN On-demand. The boxes are also much more sluggish than before the update.

Are others still having problems and Is this still widespread problem or is it just me. If widespread does Rogers have an estimate for a fix.

YES! This is horrible. If there are no upcoming episodes of a series, the tile dissapears entirely! How can I review or change my recording settings for shows that are on hiatus?
